The Exchange Calendar Update Configuration Tool enables administrators to update, using the Time Zone Data Update Tool for Microsoft® Office Outlook®, multiple user mailboxes, thereby avoiding the challenges involved with broadly deploying the Outlook Time Zone Data Update Tool to all end-users.

The VM contains a trial version of Windows Server 2003, Microsoft Outlook 2007, Excel 2007 and Word 2007. The Exchange Calendar Update Configuration Tool is preinstalled as well. The VM can be used on both Virtual PC or Virtual Server.

After you install the DST updates for Microsoft Windows, all old appointments that occur during the DST change periods will be incorrectly displayed as occurring one hour later. This is true for both recurring and single-instance appointments. These appointments must be updated so that they will be displayed correctly in Outlook, in Outlook Web Access, and in CDO-based applications.Outlook provides a tool that is named the Time Zone Data Update Tool for Microsoft Office Outlook . This tool enables users to update their own calendars.

The Exchange Calendar Update Configuration Tool helps you avoid the challenges difficulties that are faced by administrators in deploying the Outlook tool widely to all users and to make sure that each user runs the Outlook tool correctly.

Installation Instructions

1. Click the Download button to begin downloading the VM files. All three files are required.

2. Double-click ExchangeDSTTool.part1.exe.

3. Choose a location to store the extracted files.

4. If using Virtual PC, follow these steps:
a. Start Microsoft Virtual PC, click File, click New Virtual Machine Wizard, and then click Next.

b. In the Options dialog box, click Add an existing virtual machine, and then click Next.

c. In the Existing Virtual Machine Name and location dialog box, click Browse to locate the folder where you extracted the files in Step 3 above, select the file named ExchangeDSTTool.vmc, and then click Next.

d. Click to select the When I click Finish, open Settings check box, and then click Finish.

e. Modify the settings for the VM as necessary. At a minimum, highlight Networking, then in the drop-down for Adapter 1, select an adapter which allows the VM access to the corporate network. When finished with settings, click OK.

f. In the Virtual PC Console window, select the VM, then click Start. The VM will now boot. Follow the instructions during Setup.

g. After the VM has booted, logon to Windows

h. Install anti-virus software, then join it to the Windows domain.

i. Follow the steps in KB 941018 to use the Exchange Calendar Update Configuration Tool. The tool is preinstalled and stored in C:\ProgramFiles\MSExTmz\ .


5. If using Virtual Server, follow these steps:

a. Click Start, All Programs, Microsoft Virtual Server, Virtual Server Administration Website.

b. Click Server Properties, Search Paths, then add the full path to the files extracted in step 3 above, then click OK.

c. Under Virtual Machines, click Add.Microsoft Virtual PC, click File, click New Virtual Machine Wizard, and then click Next.

d. In the Options dialog box, click Add. In the Known configuration files drop-down box, select the path/file ExchangeDSTTool.vmc, then click Add.

e. Scroll down and click Network adapters. In the Connected to: drop-down box, select an adapter which allows the VM access to the corporate network. When finished with settings, click OK.

f. Click the Image icon below the VM name to turn on the VM. The VM will now boot. Follow the instructions during Setup.

g. After the VM has booted, logon to Windows

h. Install anti-virus software, then join it to the Windows domain.

i. Follow the steps in KB 941018 to use the Exchange Calendar Update Configuration Tool. The tool is preinstalled and stored in C:\ProgramFiles\MSExTmz\ .
