Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Tools for Visual Studio 2005 software updates the Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 SP1 smart device development components with the design time environment for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition (SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition). The download should be installed after the following conditions are fulfilled:

• Download the licensing file for Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Tools for Visual Studio 2005 and read through the terms of the license. You must accept the licensing terms before you download the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Tools for Visual Studio 2005. The licensing file will be also available in the path %Program Files%\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\SmartDevices\SDK\SQL Server after the installation of the patch


• The Smart Device Development components are installed during the installation of the Visual Studio 2005.


• Visual Studio 2005 has been updated to Visual Studio 2005 SP1

The Smart Device Development components can be installed from the Visual Studio 2005 media (CD, DVD etc.) before or after updating the Visual Studio 2005 to Visual Studio 2005 SP1. If Visual Studio 2005 SP1 has been applied to Visual Studio 2005 and the smart device development components were not installed, the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Tools for Visual Studio 2005 will not install. To install the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Tools for Visual Studio 2005 install the Smart Device Development components from the Visual Studio 2005 media to the Visual Studio 2005 SP1 and then apply the download. The localized versions of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Tools for Visual Studio 2005 SP1 are installed as shown below:

• Install the English version of the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Tools for Visual Studio 2005 (SSCE31VSTools-ENU.exe).


• After the installation of the English version of Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition Tools for Visual Studio 2005 install the language pack for e.g. install SSCE31VSTools-ITA.exe for the Italian language

After the installation of the download, install the Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Compact Edition runtime for desktop and tablet PC from SQL Server 2005 Compact runtime for desktop and tablet PC
