Microsoft® Windows SharePoint® Services Language Template Pack Service Pack 3 (SP3) represents a major evolution in security for Windows SharePoint Services. It further hardens Windows SharePoint Services against potential attacks and other security threats. This service pack also includes fixes that have been previously released as separate updates for Windows SharePoint Services Language Template Pack.

This update applies to the following program:

It is advised that you perform a full backup of your Microsoft® Windows® SharePoint® Services environment prior to applying a service pack. You may consult the Windows SharePoint Services Administrator's Guide for the exact steps required to accomplish this task.

Installation instructions
To install this update, do one of the following:

• Use Microsoft Update (recommended). Microsoft Update consolidates updates provided by Windows Update and Office Update into one location and enables you to choose automatic delivery and installation of high-priority updates.
• Use Windows Update. Windows Update automatically detects Windows SharePoint Services and prompts you to install updates and service packs.
• Install only Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services Language Template Pack SP3. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Download the .exe file by clicking the Download button at the top of this page, and then save the file to your hard disk drive.
  2. It is recommended that you quit any programs you are running.
  3. In Windows Explorer, double-click the .exe file that you saved to your hard disk drive, and follow the instructions on the screen.
     
  When you double-click the executable package, installation begins. To extract the patch files (.msp files), you must use a command line. The command line and instructions are included in the Knowledge Base article (197147): Command-Line Switches For IExpress Software Update Packages.

For complete Windows SharePoint Services SP3 functionality, you will need to install both of the following:

• Windows SharePoint Services Language Template Pack Service Pack 3 (this download)
• Windows SharePoint Services Service Pack 3

If you are updating a Web farm, you should update all Web servers to Windows SharePoint Services SP3 and Windows SharePoint Services Language Template Pack SP3 at the same time.
