The Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista addresses areas of Visual Studio impacted by Windows Vista enhancements. This update also applies to Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2008 R2.

  • If the machine participated in the Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista Beta, please be sure to uninstall the beta first. This also applies to Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, and Windows Server 2008 R2. Visual Studio 2005 is supported on these operating systems with the same limitations as described for Windows Vista.

    During the development of Windows Vista, several key investments were made to vastly improve overall quality, security, and reliability from previous versions of Windows. While we have made tremendous investments in Windows Vista to ensure backwards compatibility, some of the system enhancements, such as User Account Control, changes to the networking stack, and the new graphics model, make Windows Vista behave differently from previous versions of Windows. These investments impact Visual Studio 2005. The Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista addresses areas of Visual Studio impacted by Vista enhancements.

    1. Before you install this update, it is highly recommended that you read the Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista Release Notes.

    2. If the machine participated in the Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista Beta, please be sure to uninstall the beta first.
      1. Go to Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Feature > Installed Updates.
      2. Select 'Hotfix for Visual Studio 2005 [SKU name] - ENU (KB929470)' or 'Hotfix for Visual Studio 2005 [SKU name] - JPN (KB929471)'.
      3. Right-click and select 'Uninstall'.
    3. Download the Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 with Vista Support Update installer executable file locally.

    4. Right-click the downloaded file and select ‘Run as Administrator’.

    A Note about Uninstall
    1. If it should become necessary to uninstall this service pack, there are conditions which may require access to the original product installation media or network location.
