SQL Server Management Studio extension for Diagnostics
SQL Server Diagnostics is a collection of micro-services which enables SQL Server customers to self-help and debug SQL Server issues related to memory dumps and receive recommended fixes for their issues.
Note
Installing SQL Server Diagnostics for SSMS 2016, will create following folders:
- %PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\Microsoft Corporation\SQL Server Diagnostics\SSMS 2016
- %PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\Microsoft SQL Server\130\Tools\Binn\ManagementStudio\Extensions\SQL Server Diagnostics
Installing SQL Server Diagnostics for SSMS 2017, will create following folders:
- %PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\Microsoft Corporation\SQL Server Diagnostics\SSMS 2017
- %PROGRAMFILES(x86)%\Microsoft SQL Server\140\Tools\Binn\ManagementStudio\Extensions\SQL Server Diagnostics

System Requirements
Operating Systems: Windows 10, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008 Enterprise, Windows Server 2008 R2
- Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) 2016 or a later version. If you don't have SSMS installed, please install it from: SQL Server Management Studio
- If SSMS is running on server machine (e.g. 2008 R2, 2012 R2):
- Add https://ecs.microsoft.com/ to trusted sites
- In IE Settings, on the Advanced tab, deselect the Do not save encrypted pages to disk setting under the Security section
Installation Instructions
- The download is a .msi file. To start the download, click Download
- Close all the running SSMS instances
- Run the .msi to install the extension
- Select the product on which you need to install the extension. At present SQL Server Diagnostics is supported for SSMS 2016 and SSMS 2017
- After installation is complete, Open SSMS and navigate to the Tools - SQL Server Diagnostics menu
