The Windows Terminal Server Management Pack for MOM 2000 SP1 monitors Terminal Server service events in the system and application event logs.

Microsoft Windows Terminal Server MOM 2000 SP1 Management Pack version 2 monitors Terminal Server services application event logs. This management pack includes event rules for the Terminal Server, Licensing Server and Session Directory services in NT4 TS Edition, Windows 2000 and Windows Server 2003. The events collected from each service indicate critical issues with Terminal Server operations during deployment.

This version 2 of the Windows Terminal Server Management Pack for MOM 2000 SP1 was built using a health model in which groups of events are combined into few rules depending on the health state transition they represent, as opposed to using every event as separate Management Pack rule (previous version). The improvements in this version include:
• Fewer rules and alerts. Every rule has a name describing a high-level operational problem. Administrators are able to see at a glance the state of a service, without having to remember the meaning of each event.
• Rules have better adjusted alert severity levels, depending on the criticality of the events in the rule. Administrators can use MOM built-in escalation model to propagate alerts with differing urgency depending on their real operational severity.
• Improved documentation regarding event description and steps to remedy a situation caused by it.
• Consistent rule naming conventions. All rules start with either ‘TS’ (for Terminal Server), ‘LS’ (for Terminal Services License Server) or ‘SD’ (Terminal Services Session Directory).

The improvements above apply to Windows 2000 and Windows 2003 sections of the Management Pack. NT4 TS Edition section is unchanged from previous version.

• MOM Software: Microsoft Operations Manager 2000 SP1

1. Click on the link to the right, and download the Management Pack module.


2. On the Microsoft Operations Manager server (DCAM), click on the executable to extract the files into a temporary directory.

You can import this management pack module using the Microsoft Operations Manager administrative console and following these steps:

1. Open the Microsoft Operations Manager administrative MMC console.


2. Expand the Microsoft Operations Manager (Default) node.


3. Expand the Rules node.


4. Click the Processing Rule Groups node.


5. Right-click on the Processing Rule Groups node and then click the Import Management Pack option.

Follow the instructions until you have finished importing the Management Pack module.
