How to install the Learning Tools for OneNote add-in across your organization. Instructions are for IT Administrators.
- The information on this page is for IT professionals who wish to deploy the installation of the free Learning Tools for OneNote add-in to PCs across their organization. It explains the system requirements and configuration options for the Learning Tools add-in.
For IT based installations, the provided MSI file will perform per-machine installation so that the Learning Tools add-in will be available to all users on the machine.
There are 2 prerequisites for installing the Learning Tools add-in: OneNote 2013 or higher and Microsoft .NET 4.5. Before running setup via the MSI file, OneNote 2013 or higher and Microsoft .NET 4.5 must be installed first.
New:
As of version 1.6.0.0, the Learning Tools for OneNote add-in has now made language support for the Immersive Reader an optional feature, as described in this article.
There are now 3 different MSI files to choose from that bundle several variations of Immersive Reader Syllables, Nouns, Verbs and Adjectives language support:- LearningTools.msi
- LearningTools.Languages.FrenchGermanSpanish.msi
- LearningTools.Languages.All.msi
LearningTools.Languages.FrenchGermanSpanish.msi includes French, German, and Spanish support, in addition to English.
LearningTools.Languages.All.msi includes ALL supported languages. Additional language support is continually being added. The complete list of currently supported languages can be found here.
To further customize language support in your organization, individual language packs are available here. For example, install the English-only LearningTools.msi and then install individual language packs alongside that as necessary.

System Requirements
Operating Systems: Windows 10, Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1
- Microsoft OneNote 2013 or OneNote 2016.
- Windows 7 or higher
- Microsoft .NET 4.5
- Administrative privileges to install and update.
Installation Instructions
- To install using an MSI file:
- Install Microsoft .NET 4.5 by using the following deployment information:

- .NET Framework Deployment Guide for Administrators (uses System Center to create and deploy a package for the .NET installer EXE file): https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee390831(v=vs.110).aspx
- Install the Learning Tools for OneNote add-in by deploying the MSI file using Microsoft System Center, Group Policy Software Installation or another equivalent deployment mechanism.
To install an Update of the Learning Tools for OneNote add-in MSI:- Use the following Windows Installer properties: REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=vomus REBOOT=ReallySuppress UILevel=2
- Or, if using msiexec.exe: msiexec.exe /fvomus LearningTools.msi /quiet /norestart
In accordance with the organization’s deployment schedule, IT can deploy updates as they become available on the Learning Tools for OneNote add-in Download Center page. This will ensure that all users are running the latest version of the Learning Tools add-in and a consistent user experience is maintained across the organization.
Currently, client updates to the Learning Tools add-in are released approximately every few weeks. While installing the latest update is not mandatory, it is recommended in order for users to take advantage of any bug fixes as well as the new features that are being continuously added to the Learning Tools add-in. - Install Microsoft .NET 4.5 by using the following deployment information:
