Legacy Update: Get back online, activate, and install updates on your legacy Windows PC

This preview release includes PackageManagement (previously known as OneGet) and PowerShellGet Windows PowerShell modules. The versions of these modules include the functionality of those that shipped with WMF 5.0.

This preview installs exclusively on systems running Windows PowerShell 4 or Windows PowerShell 3 only. This preview will not install on any systems running Windows PowerShell 5 (including Windows 10) which already ship with these modules. If you plan to move to Windows PowerShell 5, we advise you to skip installing this preview and instead install our WMF 5.0 or upgrade to Windows 10.

With PackageManagement and PowerShellGet modules, you can do the following:

• Manage a list of software repositories in which packages can be searched, acquired, and installed
• Discover software packages you need
• Seamlessly install, uninstall, and inventory packages from one or more software repositories

We hope this preview will enable you to easily discover and install modules and scripts from PowerShell Gallery as well as publish your modules and scripts to PowerShell Gallery.

This preview requires .NET Framework 4.5 or above. You can install .NET Framework 4.5 or above from here.

This preview will not install if previous version is already installed. You must uninstall the previous version of Package Management Preview MSI using the steps mentioned in Instructions section.

1. Download the correct package for your operating system and architecture. The following architectures are supported.
   • Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Windows 7 SP1
     • x64: PackageManagement_x64.msi
     • x86: PackageManagement_x86.msi

1. If you are running Windows7 SP1 or Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, ensure following prerequisites have been met:

• Latest service pack is installed.
• Windows PowerShell 4 or Windows PowerShell 3 is installed.
• .NET Framework 4.5 or above is installed.

• In Control Panel\Programs or "Programs and Features", locate and then uninstall the following installed programs:
  • Package Management Preview - x64
  • Package Management Preview - x86
