Windows Management Framework 5.0 Preview April 2015 |
Windows Management Framework 5.0 Preview April 2015 includes updates to Windows PowerShell, Windows PowerShell Desired State Configuration (DSC), and Windows PowerShell ISE. It also includes Package Management and Network Switch cmdlets.
This release includes new features and functionality in Windows Management Framework 5.0, including the following:
- Windows PowerShell 5.0
- Windows PowerShell Integrated Scripting Environment
- Windows PowerShell Desired State Configuration
- Network Switch Cmdlets
- Package Management
- Software Inventory Logging

Windows Management Framework 5.0 makes updated management functionality available for installation on Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8.1 Pro, Windows 8.1 Enterprise, Windows Server 2012, Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

**IMPORTANT**
Systems that are running the following server applications should not run Windows Management Framework 5.0 at this time.
- System Center 2012 Configuration Manager (not including SP1)
- Windows Small Business Server 2011 Standard
WMF 5.0 requires Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5. You can install Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 from the Microsoft Download Center.
Installation Instructions
InstructionsTo prepare for installation of Windows Management Framework 5.0 Preview April 2015:
- Download the correct package for your operating system and architecture. The following architectures are supported.
- Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8.1 Pro, and Windows 8.1 Enterprise
- x64: WindowsBlue-KB3055381-x64.msu
- x86: WindowsBlue-KB3055381-x86.msu
- Windows Server 2012
- x64: Windows8-KB3055377-x64.msu
- Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2
- x64: Windows6.1-KB2908075-x64.msu
- x86: Windows6.1-KB2908075-x86.msu
- Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 8.1 Pro, and Windows 8.1 Enterprise
- Close all Windows PowerShell windows.
To install WMF 5.0 Preview April 2015 from Windows Explorer (or File Explorer in Windows Server 2012 R2)
- Navigate to the folder into which you downloaded the MSU file.
- Double-click the MSU to run it.
To install WMF 5.0 Preview April 2015 by using Command Prompt
- After you have downloaded the correct package for your computer's architecture, open a Command Prompt window with elevated user rights (Run as Administrator). On the Server Core installation options of Windows Server 2012 R2, Command Prompt opens with elevated user rights by default.
- Change directories to the folder into which you have downloaded or copied the WMF 5.0 installation package.
- Run one of the following commands.
- On x64-based computers that are running Windows 8.1 Pro, Windows 8.1 Enterprise, or Windows Server 2012 R2 run WindowsBlue-KB3055381-x64.msu /quiet.
- On x86-based computers that are running Windows 8.1 Pro, Windows 8.1 Enterprise, or Windows Server 2012 R2 run WindowsBlue-KB3055381-x86.msu /quiet.
- On x64-based computers that are running Windows Server 2012 run Windows8-KB3055377-x64.msu /quiet.
- On x64-based computers that are running Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 run Windows6.1-KB2908075-x64.msu /quiet.
- On x86-based computers that are running Windows 7 SP1 Windows6.1-KB2908075-x86.msu /quiet.

To uninstall Windows Management Framework 5.0:
- In Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features\Uninstall a program, locate and then uninstall the following installed Windows Update:
