System Requirements
Operating Systems: Windows 8.1, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows 10 Tech Preview, Windows 7 Service Pack 1, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows 8
For additional information on Operating System support, see the Visual Studio 2015 Compatibility page. Hardware Requirements:
- 1.6 GHz or faster processor
- 1 GB of RAM (1.5 GB if running on a virtual machine)
- 10 GB of available hard disk space
- 5400 RPM hard disk drive
- DirectX 9-capable video card that runs at 1024 x 768 or higher display resolution
- For Windows Store and Windows Universal app development
- Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 and development require Windows 8.1 Update or later.
- Windows Phone 8.0 development require Windows 8.1 Update (x64) or later.
- For the Windows emulators, Windows 8.1 (x64) Professional edition or higher, and a processor that supports Client Hyper-V and Second Level Address Translation (SLAT)
- Note: Visual Studio 2015 RC is not supported in a production environment for creating Windows universal apps and desktop software that target Windows 10.
Installation Instructions
Choose one of these installation options:
- Install over the Internet:
- On this page, choose the Download button.
- Select the .exe option and then choose the Next button.
- To install now, choose the Run button.
- To download an installer that you can run later, choose the Save button. (When you install, the computer must be connected to the Internet.)
- To create a local copy to install offline, choose the Save button, open a command prompt at that location and run the .exe with the /layout switch
- To download an image to burn on a DVD:
- On this page, choose the Download button.
- Select the .iso option and then choose the Next button.
- Choose the Save button to download a DVD5 ISO image so that you can burn a DVD later.
- After downloading the ISO file, you should use the File Checksum Integrity Verifier tool to calculate and verify that the SHA-1 value for this file matches the value listed on the Visual Studio 2015 ISO Files SHA-1 Values page.
