Legacy Update: Get back online, activate, and install updates on your legacy Windows PC

The Microsoft® Data-Tier Application Framework (DACFx) is a component which provides application lifecycle services for database development and management for Microsoft® SQL Server® and Windows Azure SQL Databases. This preview of Data-Tier Application Framework for the latest Azure SQL Database Update V12 (preview) is pre-release software and should be installed only on a clean machine. It does not support upgrade.

With this release, users can utilize DACFx functionality in Visual Studio, SQL Server Management Studio 2014 and SqlPackage.exe to target an Azure SQL Database Update V12 (preview) instance. New features include:

• Support for the latest Azure SQL Database Update V12 (preview) when using the SQL Server Data-Tier Application Framework APIs.
• SQLPackage.exe enhancements to support the latest Azure SQL Database Update V12 (preview). Please refer to SQLPackage.exe documentation for full details.
  Enhancements include:
  • Improved working experience against Azure SQL Database Basic and Standard Editions with increased default CommandTimeout value.
  • Ability to specify CommandTimeout value in SQLPackage.exe. Note that for deployments to Azure SQL Databases, if this value is lower than the new default timeout for Azure SQL Databases then the default value will be used instead.
  • Ability to specify Azure SQL Database version during export.
  • Ability to specify Azure SQL Database edition, service objective and maximum size for publish and import action

NOTE: If you are on an x64 machine, you will need to install both the x64 and x86 versions of the MSIs above.We appreciate all feedback and encourage use of our forum or Microsoft Connect site.

Microsoft Data-Tier Application Framework requires SQL Server 2014 Microsoft SQL Server System CLR Types and Microsoft SQL Server Transact-SQL ScriptDom (SQLSysCLRTypes.msi and SQLDOM.msi) both of which are available on the Microsoft® SQL Server® 2014 Feature Pack site. You will also need to apply cumulative update package 5 for SQL Server 2014 available here to be able to use the service objective support in SQLPackage.exe. If you are on an x64 machine, you will need to install both the x64 and x86 versions of the MSIs above.
