This update fixes an issue that under certain circumstances some of the domain groups and users could be removed from the local Administrators group on the cluster nodes.

  • This update fixes an issue that some of the domain groups and users could be removed from the local Administrators group on the cluster nodes under certain circumstances, such as an unstable connection to Active Directory.
    Alhough the issue is unlikely to occur, it is recommended that customers using the HPC Pack 2008 R2 SP4 with Cumulative QFE (KB 2867769) apply this hotfix.

System Requirements

Operating Systems: Windows HPC Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1

  • An HPC Pack 2008 R2 cluster
    HPC Pack 2008 R2 Service Pack 4 and Cumulative QFE (KB 2867769) must be installed.

Installation Instructions

  • This update needs to be run only on head nodes.

    Before applying the update, please check if HPC Pack 2008 R2 Service Pack 4 and Cumulative QFE (KB 2867769) are installed. the version number (in HPC Cluster Manager, click Help>About) should be 3.4.4236.0. It is recommended to stop all active jobs and back up the head node (or head nodes) and HPC databases before installing or uninstalling the update.

    Note when you apply the QFE, several settings that are related to HPC services are reset to their default values, including 1) firewall rules; 2) event log settings for all HPC services; 3) MSMQ message storage size; 4) If the head nodes are configured for high availability in a failover cluster, the HPC Pack related resources that are configured in the failover cluster.

    Applying the update

    To apply the update, run the KB3021390.exe on the head node by using an administrator account. A system reboot may be required after the installation.
    Note: If you have high availability head nodes, run the fix on the active head node, move the node to passive, and after failover occurs run the fix on the new active head node. Do this for all head nodes in the cluster.

    Uninstalling the update

    To uninstall the update, in Control Panel, click Programs, select View installed updates, and double-click Update for Microsoft HPC Pack 2008 R2 SP4 (KB3021390).
    Note: If you have high availability head nodes, uninstall the update on a passive head node, move the node to active, and then repeat uninstallation on the new passive head node. Do this for all head nodes in the cluster.
