The intent of the deployment was to retain the user data and applications and execute the upgrade process with minimal user interaction on a large number of Windows 8–based computers already deployed in the environment. Microsoft IT accomplished this by using the Application Management feature of Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 Configuration Manager.
