The Microsoft Office 97 Unique Identifier Removal Tool addresses privacy concerns regarding the insertion of a unique identifier number in Office 97 documents. Customers who wish to remove the unique identifier number from their existing Office 97 documents should install this tool.


Note  If you haven't already done so, Microsoft recommends that you also download and install the Microsoft Office 97 Unique Identifier Patch which prevents Office 97 from inserting unique identifier numbers into new Office 97 documents.

To install this download

  1. You may want to print this page to use as a reference when you are offline.
  2. Download the file from this page by clicking the Download link above and following the instructions in the dialog boxes.
  3. Double-click the Pf_setup.exe program file on your hard disk to start the setup program.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.


Instructions for use:

  1. From the Start Menu, point to Programs, and then point to Microsoft Office Tools. Select Microsoft Office 97 Unique Identifier Removal Tool.
  2. Choose the location that contains the Office 97 documents you wish to update. All Office 97 documents in and below this location will have their unique identifier numbers removed.
  3. When the removal process is complete, click OK on the confirmation dialog box.
  4. For a list of Office 97 documents affected by the removal process, view >drive>:\propfix.log.


To remove this download:

  1. From the Start menu, point to Settings, and then choose Control Panel. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  2. In the list of programs on the Install/Uninstall tab, find Microsoft Office 97 Unique Identifier Removal Tool and highlight it. Click Add/Remove.
  3. Confirm that you are certain you want to uninstall this software by clicking Yes.
  4. When the removal is complete, click OK in the confirmation dialog box.
