The Microsoft SDL Optimization Model is designed to help development managers and IT policy-makers adopt the Microsoft SDL to reduce customer risk.

Microsoft has released the SDL Optimization Model as part of the commitment to fostering a trustworthy computing ecosystem. The model is designed to help development managers and IT policy-makers gradually move their organizations toward the adoptioin of the Microsoft SDL to reduce customer risk. The SDL Optimization Model enables you to: 1) Assess the state of your development organization with four maturity levels 2) Create a practical vision and roadmap for improving your organizations software development capability 3) Outline practical and cost-effective activities in each of the five capability areas to assist with budgeting, planning, and staffing efforts associated with software. After your assessment is complete, you can use the Microsoft SDL - Developer Starter Kit (listed below in the related resources) to help build an internal training program.
