Makes it easier to share documents, photos, and other files from Windows Live Essentials, and to switch from one Windows Live ID to another in Internet Explorer. Note that clicking “Download” means you agree to the Microsoft service agreement and privacy statement. Additional details below.

  • The Windows Live Sign-in Assistant includes client libraries that let you sign in to programs like Windows Live Messenger. It also includes:

    • An Internet Explorer add-on that provides a richer sign-in experience for people with more than one Windows Live ID.
    • The Windows Live ID online provider for Windows 7, so you can link a Windows Live ID to one or more Windows 7 user accounts, making it easier to share your documents, photos, and other files with friends.
    • The Windows Live ID Service, which runs on your PC and supports richer sign-in experiences across the web and programs on your Windows computer.

    Benefits
Windows Live Sign-in Assistant is a dependency for all programs that are part of Windows Live Essentials 2011.

It allows you to sign in with your Windows Live ID to any Windows Live Essentials program and to some other Microsoft programs that use the Windows Live ID service.

After you link your Windows 7 user account to a Windows Live ID, the Sign-in Assistant helps a program running on one computer identify and communicate with other computers that are associated with the same Windows Live ID. If you link your Windows Live ID to a user account on each of your computers that is running Windows 7, those computers will be able to identify each other and work together in a more seamless way.

For example, if you have a Windows HomeGroup, and you want to share certain documents with your spouse but not with your kids, you can do so by specifying your spouse’s Windows Live ID. Your spouse will have exclusive permission to the documents, even when accessing them from a different computer.

Windows Live Sign-in Assistant is part of Windows Live Essentials, which also includes Windows Live Messenger, Photo Gallery, Movie Maker, Mail, Writer, Family Safety, Windows Live Mesh, Bing Bar, Messenger Companion, Microsoft Silverlight, and Outlook Connector Pack (Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector and Social Connector Provider for Windows Live Messenger). During installation you can choose which of these programs you want.

Note: Clicking Download means you agree to the Microsoft service agreement and privacy statement. The download may include updates to Windows Live programs you already have. You’ll get updates to these and other Microsoft programs from Microsoft Update. This software may also download and install some updates automatically. Learn more
