Windows PowerShell supports a Group Policy setting ("Turn on script execution") that sets the execution policy for Windows PowerShell. This policy setting can prevent users from running scripts that are downloaded from the Internet or from sources other than trusted publishers. It can also prevent users from running any scripts; however, it allows users to run interactive commands.

From this page, you can download a Microsoft Windows Installer that contains PowerShellExecutionPolicy.adm, the Administrative template file for the Windows PowerShell Group Policy setting. Administrative template files populate user interface settings in the Group Policy Object Editor, enabling administrators to manage policy settings.

To download the Windows Installer that contains the .adm file:

1. Click the Download button

2. In the File Download dialog box, click Save.
3. In the Save As dialog box, browse to the directory where you want to save the Windows Installer (.msi file).
4. To start downloading the Windows Installer, click Save.

To install the .adm file on your computer:

1. Double-click the Windows Installer to start the .adm file installation wizard.
2. Follow the instructions in the wizard.

: The Windows Installer allows you to select the location where the file is installed. Note the file location so that you can find the file after it has been installed.



To add the .adm file to Group Policy (gpedit.msc):

1. Click Start, click Run, and then type gpedit.msc.
2. Under Computer Configuration, right-click Administrative Templates, and then click Add/Remove Templates.
3. In the Add/Remove Templates box, click Add.
4. Navigate to the PowerShellExecutionPolicy.adm file in the location where you installed it. If you did not specify an alternate location, the file is installed in %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Group Policy (typically C:\Program Files\Microsoft Group Policy).
5. Double-click PowerShellExecutionPolicy.adm.
6. Click Close.
