Legacy Update: Get back online, activate, and install updates on your legacy Windows PC

This update addresses issues discussed in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 888092.

When you run a custom Web program in Microsoft Internet Explorer 6, Internet Explorer may quit unexpectedly and you receive the following error message:

Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

This problem may occur when all of the following conditions are true:

• You have installed the cumulative security update for Internet Explorer (MS04-025).

• The Temporary Internet files option in Internet Explorer is set to Every visit to the page (on the Tools menu, click Options, and then click Settings).
• Your network connection is less than 100 megabytes (MB).

This update is for users with Windows XP (XP SP1) and Windows 2000 (SP3 and SP4). For users with Windows 98, Windows 98SE, Windows Millenium and Windows NT4, this update is available here
