Microsoft® Expression Blend™ is the professional design tool used to create engaging Web-connected experiences for Windows.

  • Expression Blend Service Pack 1 (SP1) is an update to Expression Blend. If you are currently using the trial version of Expression Blend, simply download and install this service pack and continue to use the trial. If you have purchased Expression Blend, download and install this service pack to update your copy of Expression Blend.

    You can get specific information about the SP1 update in the Microsoft Knowledge Base article (944811), Description of Expression Blend Service Pack 1, or the Microsoft Knowledge Base article (944809), Issues that are fixed in Expression Blend by Expression Blend Service Pack 1.

    Installation Instructions

    These instructions assume you have already installed a trial or purchased copy of Expression Blend.
    1. Download and install Expression Blend Service Pack 1 (this download).
    2. [Optional] Download and install the updated User Guide for Expression Blend Service Pack 1.

System Requirements

Operating Systems: Windows Vista, Windows XP Service Pack 2

  • Minimum system:
    • Intel® Pentium® or AMD processor, 1 GHz with MMX or equivalent
    • 512 MB of RAM
    • 350 MB available hard disk space
    • Graphics processor that is DirectX® 9-capable
    • 1024 x 768 monitor resolution with 24-bit color

    Recommended system:
    • Intel Pentium or AMD processor, 2 GHz with MMX or equivalent
    • 1GB of RAM
    • Microsoft® DirectX® 9.0–capable video card with 256 MB or more of memory—for example, ATI Radeon® X300 or NVIDIA® GeForce 5600 class equivalent or better
    • 1280 x 1024 or greater monitor resolution with 32-bit color

    Graphics requirements:

    In Windows XP
    1. Click Display in Control Panel.
    2. Click the Settings tab and then under Color quality, make sure Highest (32 bit) is selected.
    3. Next, click the Advanced button, and then on the Adapter tab, click the Properties button.
    4. Click the Driver tab and look next to the Driver Date to see if the date is more recent than 11/1/2004. If it is not, then video and hardware acceleration will not work properly on your system unless you upgrade your video drivers.

    In Windows Vista
    1. Under Appearance and Personalization in Control Panel, click Adjust screen resolution.
    2. Under Colors, make sure Highest (32 bit) is selected.
    3. Next, click the Advanced Settings button, and then on the Adapter tab, click the Properties button.
    4. Click the Driver tab and look next to the Driver Date to see if the date is more recent than 11/1/2004. If it is not, then video and hardware acceleration will not work properly on your system unless you upgrade your video drivers.
