Visual C++ 2008 Express Edition with SP1 – is the development environment for creating native Windows applications that deliver the highest quality rich user experiences. This new version includes an easy installation of the Windows Platform SDK.

SQL Server 2008 – SQL Server 2008 Express is a free full-feature database that is ideal for learning, creating and deploying Windows and Web data-enabled applications.

SQL Server Compact Edition.

IMPORTANT
If you have multiple Visual Studio products installed, you must upgrade all of them to SP1. If you have Visual Studio 2008 and one or more 2008 Express Editions, you cannot upgrade the Express Editions until you have upgraded Visual Studio.

Visual Studio 2008 Express with SP1 is available in two (2) downloadable formats: a self-extracting executable file for each of the individual products that will allow you to download a small setup file and install without a DVD burner. The self-extracting file includes the installation option for SQL Server 2008 Express Edition. The second format is an all-in-one DVD image file that includes all the Visual Studio 2008 Express with SP1 products as well as SQL Server 2008 Express Edition that you can use to burn your own DVD.
