The Microsoft Presence Sample for Smart Client Applications illustrates how to display presence status and provide real-time collaboration options in smart client applications using the interfaces provided by Microsoft Office Communicator 2005.
The Microsoft Presence Sample for Smart Client Applications includes two managed code user controls to display presence status and provide real-time collaboration options in .NET applications.
One control presents an interactive presence icon next to a control on a form that contains a name. The second control is derived from a ListView control to display the presence status icon next to names in a list. Both controls provide tooltips, a context menu, and events for contact status changes.
Note:
- You should install Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 to build the controls and the sample applications
- Microsoft Office Communicator 2005 should be installed on any client machines accessing instances of these application samples
- There is no support for this sample code.

Installation Instructions
- Download the file by clicking the Download button (above) and saving the file to your hard disk.
- Double-click the PresenceforSmartClients.msi program file on your hard disk to begin installation.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
- On the Start menu, point to Settings and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- In the list of currently installed programs, select Microsoft Presence Sample for Smart Client Applications and then click Remove or Add/Remove. If a dialog box appears, follow the instructions to remove the program.
- Click Yes or OK to confirm that you want to remove the program.
