This tool is intended to correct a problem in SQL Server Management Studio on systems which are upgraded to DPM 2010 retail version from Eval or intermediate DPM 2010 builds (Beta, RC).

When you install DPM 2010 Beta, DPM 2010 RC or DPM 2010 Evaluation and upgrade the product to a retail version of DPM 2010. Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio has two issues.

  • Issue 1: SQL Server Management Studio does not start, and you receive an error message.
  • Issue 2: SQL Server Management Studio starts. But on the Help menu, you receive the message that SQL management tool will expire in number day

This issue occurs because SQL Server Management Tools are not upgraded in the upgrade to System Center Data Protection Manager 2010. This tool is fixing that.

DPM 2010

Installation Instructions

  • Download and run the exe on your retail version of DPM 2010 which has expired SQL management tools. On Eval version of DPM this tool won’t work. After running this exe you should have the retail version of SQL management tools. This exe might prompt for a restart.
  • This exe doesn’t have UI. It’s just a executable and will just silently upgrade the SQL management tools to retail. In case if upgrading fails say because of restart required it will be shown on command line. If the SQL management tools are not expired it will upgrade to retail and quit.
