The three sample add-ins provided in this download are available in C# and Visual Basic .NET versions. They demonstrate many of the new and enhanced features of the Outlook object model
The Outlook 2007 Sample Add-Ins are a learning tool that will help you understand some of the important new features in the Outlook 2007 object model. Each sample is available in a version for Visual Studio 2005 Tools for Office Second Edition (VSTO 2005 SE) in addition to the version based on the Outlook 2007 Sample: Visual Studio 2005 Templates.
They provide coverage of the following important new areas:
- Using the Rules object model, which allows you to programmatically create or access most rules supported by the Outlook Rules Wizard (Rules sample)
- Implementing a form region for an Outlook contact item (Travel Agency sample)
- Adding a custom task pane to an Outlook AppointmentItem (Prepare Me sample)

- This download works with the following applications:

- Microsoft Visual Studio 2005
- Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Tools for the 2007 Office system
The Outlook 2007 sample add-ins run only on Visual Studio 2005 Standard Edition, Visual Studio 2005 Professional Edition, or Visual Studio 2005 Team System. If you are using Microsoft Visual C# Express Edition or Microsoft Visual Basic Express Edition to open the sample add-ins, you will not be able to build the setup/deployment project for the sample add-ins.
Installation Instructions
- Download the file by clicking the Download link (above) and saving the file to your hard disk.
- Double-click the Outlook2007SampleAddin.msi program file on your hard disk to start the setup program.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
Note:
Before you install this version of the Outlook 2007 sample add-ins, make sure you uninstall any previous version of the samples that are installed on your computer.
Note: Each sample solution is contained in a solution folder and subfolders. The suffix of the sample solution name identifies the language used for the sample. Visual Basic .NET samples have a VB suffix and C# samples have a CS suffix. For example, RulesAddinVB contains the Visual Basic .NET version and RulesAddinCS contains the C# version. The samples for VSTO 2005 SE have "_VSTO" appended to the solution name.
Instructions for use:
- Close Outlook 2007.
- In the My Documents\Visual Studio 2005\Projects\SolutionName folder, open the SolutionName solution.
- Select AddinNameSetup in Solution Explorer.
- Select Rebuild AddinNameSetup on the Build menu.
- [Optional] After the build process has completed, select Install on the Project menu to install the solution.
- Start Outlook to start the add-in in Run mode or press F5 to start the add-in in Debug mode.
If you install the sample add-ins on Windows Vista, you must run Visual Studio 2005 as Administrator to build the PrepareMeCS or PrepareMeVB solutions.
To run Visual Studio 2005 as Administrator, follow these steps:
- Click the Start menu, and locate Microsoft Visual Studio 2005.
- Right-click Microsoft Visual Studio 2005.
- Select the Run As Administrator command.
To remove this download:
- On the Start menu, point to Settings and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- In the list of currently installed programs, select any sample add-in that you built and installed in step 5 above.
- Click Remove or Add/Remove, and then click Yes or OK to confirm that you want to remove the program. If you did not install the individual sample add-ins, proceed to the next step.
- In the list of currently installed programs, select Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Sample Add-ins and then click Remove or Add/Remove. If a dialog box appears, follow the instructions to remove the program.
- Click Yes or OK to confirm that you want to remove the program.
- Delete the file Outlook2007SampleAddin.msi from your hard disk.
