Microsoft Sync Framework 2.0 CTP (October 2008) Documentation |
Download documentation for Microsoft Sync Framework 2.0 CTP (October 2008). Documentation is available for Sync Framework core components, Sync Services for ADO.NET, Metadata Storage Service, Sync Services for File Systems, and Sync Services for FeedSync.
Microsoft Sync Framework is a comprehensive synchronization platform that enables collaboration and offline access for applications, services, and devices. The documentation available from this Web site covers the following technologies:
- Sync Framework core components, which are used to create synchronization providers for any type of data store.
- Sync Services for ADO.NET, which is used to synchronize databases for offline and collaborative scenarios.
- Metadata Storage Service, which is used to store synchronization metadata in a lightweight data store.
- Sync Services for File Systems, which is used to synchronize files and folders in a file system.
- Sync Services for FeedSync, which is used to synchronize RSS and Atom feeds with data in a local store.
This release includes the following new features, which are described in the topic “What's New in Sync Framework 2.0” that is included in the core and metadata storage documentation sets:
- Simple provider API: enables developers to quickly implement providers for stores that do not support change tracking or that support basic tracking.
- Change unit filtering: enables a replica to store only a subset of the change units that are defined for the items it synchronizes.
- Provider-negotiated filters: enables the source and destination providers to negotiate which filter should be used by the source provider during change enumeration.
- Provider converters: enables providers that implement different base interfaces to synchronize with each other.
- Updated knowledge structure and additional interfaces: provides backwards compatible changes to how synchronization knowledge is stored and manipulated.
- Serialization for Metadata Storage Service: provides interfaces that serialize and deserialize metadata for a replica between a canonical metadata file format and version-specific Metadata Storage Services store formats.
Note:
This CTP does not include any updates to Sync Services for ADO.NET.
