Use the tools in the Microsoft Office Access 2003 Conversion Toolkit to find and analyze your databases in preparation for switching to the latest version of Microsoft Access.
Access 2003 developers, administrators, and users now have a new toolkit to aid them in analyzing Access 97 databases for upgrade and conversion to Access 2003. Use the tools in the Access 2003 Conversion Toolkit to find and analyze your databases in preparation for switching to the latest version of Access.
Note: This toolkit does not convert your databases. It only helps you with scoping and identifying known issues that have an impact on the conversion process.

System Requirements
Operating Systems: Windows 98, Windows NT, Windows XP, Windows 98 Second Edition
- Required for the report tool:
- Microsoft Office Access 2003
- Microsoft Access 2002
- Required for the scan tool:
- Visual Basic runtime (msvbvm50.dll) - Included in this Toolkit.
- Data Access Objects 3.5 or higher (dao350.dll/dao360.dll) - Included in Microsoft Access 97, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows NT® 4.0 Option Pack, and Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.
- Microsoft Scripting Runtime (sccrun.dll) - Included in Microsoft Access 2000, Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack, Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5, and Microsoft Windows Scripting Host.
- MSXML (msxml.dll) - Included in Windows 98, Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 5, and Windows XP.
- Microsoft Access 97 or later versions to gather Access properties, such as VBA references, reference count, and compiled state.
In summary, you should have Windows 98 or later versions, Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack, and Windows NT 4.0 SP5. To collect Access properties, Access 97 is also required.
Note: Access 2003 is not required to use the scan tool.
- Microsoft Windows Installer version 1.1 or later. The latest version of Windows Installer is available as a separate download at the following links:
Installation Instructions
- Download the file by clicking the Download button (above) and saving the file to your hard disk.
- Double-click the ConvTool.msi program file on your hard disk to start the Setup program.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
After you install this download, you can begin to use the Toolkit.

To remove the download file, delete the file ConvTool.msi.
- On the Start menu, point to Settings and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- In the list of currently installed programs, select Access Conversion Toolkit and then click Remove or Add/Remove. If a dialog box appears, follow the instructions to remove the program.
- Click Yes or OK to confirm that you want to remove the program.
