Installation Instructions

  • There are some differences between the English and Korean packages. It is recommended that you install the language version of Windows Media Services 9 that corresponds to the language version of Windows Server 2003 you are using. Not doing so may result in corruption of the user interface of Windows Server 2003; corruption of the uninstall functionality of Microsoft Management Console (MMC) and no removal of the “Windows Media Services” component in the Windows Components area of the Control Panel.

It is also recommended you install the fix outlined in KB Article 942635 after installation of Windows Media Services 9 Series, if you are either developing or using .Net application via the .Net interoperability interfaces.

    1. English Package Instructions [WindowsServer2003-KB944027-SP2-X86-ENU.EXE, is installed only onto an English Server 2003 SP2 system.]
      • The English package when executed will present use terms in English.
      • After the installation Windows Media Services 9 will be integrated with Add/Remove Windows Programs just like on the full non KN Server version.
    2. Korean Package Instructions [WindowsServer2003-KB944027-SP2-X86-KOR.sfx.exe / WindowsServer2003-KB944027-SP2-X86-KOR.exe, is to be installed only onto a Korean Server 2003 SP2 system.]
      • The Korean package when executed will present use terms in Korean.
      • After you accept the use terms, the download will extract the Korean package and the Korean use terms to a folder you specify.
      • After extraction you will need to run the Korean installation package. You will be presented with the English use terms. After you accept the use terms, the package will install Windows Media Services 9 in unattended mode in the Korean language version. After the installation Windows Media Services 9 will be integrated with Add/Remove Windows Programs just like on the full non KN Server version.
        • This means users installing the Korean version will accept the use terms twice to complete the installation process. The first time in Korean to extract the files and the second time in English for installation. This is due to the use terms requiring UNICODE for the Korean language. The installation package (which setup is always in English) is implemented via in a way that does not support UNICODE use terms documents.
