The Remove Office tools utility offers an easy way to remove Office 98 and Office 2001. The tools move Office components that are stored in the System Folder to the Trash and remove the Office folder.

• Office 98 or Office 2001
• Operating system: Mac OS 8.1 to 9.x (OS 8.5 or later recommended)
• Hard disk: 2 MB of RAM

• The Remove Office tools remove ALL files associated with Microsoft Office 2001 for Mac® or Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition. If other programs — such as Microsoft Outlook for Macintosh — that rely on Office components, are installed on your computer, the Remove Office tools will also disable those programs and you will have to reinstall.
• Removing Office 98 prior to installing Office 2001 is not required.
• Make sure that the name of the Microsoft Office folder on your computer for the version of Office you want to remove is correct. The correct folder names are:
  
  • Microsoft Office 98
  • Microsoft Office 2001
• The Remove Office tool will not work correctly if the folder name is misspelled, has extra or missing spaces, or otherwise varies from the correct folder name.

Two different file types are available for this download, MacBinary (.bin) or BinHex (.hqx). A .bin file is typically smaller than an .hqx file, but is less compatible with earlier Macintosh systems, such as Mac OS 7.0, 8.0, and 8.5. An .hqx file is typically larger, but is more compatible with earlier systems.

Before you install this download:

• Quit any other programs that are running, including virus-protection programs, because they might interfere with installation.


• Make sure Allume Systems StuffIt Expander version 6 or later is installed on your computer. If an earlier version of StuffIt Expander is installed on your computer, you might not be able to install this download.

1. Print this page if you want to use it as a reference when you are offline.


2. Make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for this download.


3. In the table above, click the language version and file format you want.


4. Follow the instructions on the screen to save the file to your hard disk.
   If you are using Internet Explorer, the Download Manager saves the file to the desktop unless you specified a different download folder in the Preferences dialog box (Download Options pane).


5. On your hard disk, double-click the file that you downloaded in step 4 to expand it.
   Depending on the Web browser that you are currently using, this step might be performed for you automatically.


6. Double-click the Remove Office Installer icon to start the setup program.


7. Follow the instructions on the screen to finish installation.


8. If the installation has completed successfully, you can delete the Remove Office Installer icon and the file you downloaded in step 4 from your hard disk.
