When you try to copy purchased content or subscription content from online services on a PlaysForSure-verified device, the following error message is displayed: "0xC00D10BC - Windows Media Player cannot synchronize the file because the device needs to be updated"

Consider the following scenario. You purchase a PlaysForSure-verified device, and you install the device. The device appears to be installed correctly. The device works correctly when you copy content that is ripped from CDs.


In this scenario, the device does not work correctly when you copy purchased content or subscription content from online services. When you try to copy this kind of content, the content is not copied. Rio Carbon devices that have the PlaysForSure firmware may exhibit the problem that this article describes.


A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in KB Article 922814. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem.
