Download the Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Upgrade Advisor. Upgrade Advisor analyzes instances of SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 to help you prepare for upgrades to SQL Server 2008.
- Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Upgrade Advisor analyzes instances of SQL Server 2000 and SQL Server 2005 in preparation for upgrading to SQL Server 2008. Upgrade Advisor identifies feature and configuration changes that might affect your upgrade, and it provides links to documentation that describes each identified issue and how to resolve it.

System Requirements
Operating Systems: Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 2, Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista Service Pack 1, Windows XP Service Pack 3
- The Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. This is the same version of the .NET Framework that is included with SQL Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2005.
- Windows Installer 4.5.
- SQL Server 2000 Decision Support Objects (DSO) if you are analyzing Analysis Services. You can install DSO from SQL Server 2000 Setup.
- SQL Server 2000 client components if you are analyzing Data Transformation Services. You can install the client components from SQL Server 2000 Setup.
- Pentium III-compatible processor or higher, with a processor speed of at least 500 MHz.
- 15 MB of available hard disk space.
Installation Instructions
- Step 1: Use Add or Remove Programs to remove any previous versions of Upgrade Advisor.
Step 2: For 32-bit platforms, download and install the 32-bit version of Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0. For 64-bit platforms (X64 and EMT64 only), download and install the 64-bit version of Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.
Note: If you have already installed SQL Server 2008, you already have Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.
Step 3: Click Download. The readme file and documentation are installed with Upgrade Advisor.
