  • Published:
  • Version: KB979970
  • Category: Update
  • Language: English

This rollup contains fixes for the issues in Microsoft System Center Data Protection Manager (DPM) 2007 that are described in the Data Protection Manager 2007 KB 979970.

This QFE rollup resolves the following issues:

  1. Experiencing a crash in the Data Protection Manager engine when you run a tape job from a protected server.
  2. Upon use of the Data Protection Manager Management Console to browse SharePoint recovery points or when you back-up a SharePoint point to tape from disk, you receive the following error message:
    • PrmDatasetDatasourceMismatchForArchiveOfSC (=30132)
  3. A SharePoint recovery point in a secondary Data Protection Manager has a different set of datasets than the corresponding recovery point in the primary Data Protection Manager.
  4. Alerts for SCR servers do not display in Microsoft Operations Manager.
  5. Default disk allocations may grow unexpectedly for System State protection.
  6. When restoring a SharePoint site that contains a WEB host header to an alternate location, the site restores to the default site.
  7. Shared Service Provider (SSP) database protection is blocked when one or more SSP names begins with the other SSP name.
  8. The server is slow and time out errors may occur when you run a backup to tape job.
  9. Data Protection Manager-owned tapes are marked as unrecognized.
  10. Data Protection Manager cannot retrieve SharePoint catalog information. Therefore, item-level recovery is not possible for some content databases. Additionally, you may receive the following error code:
    • 3103
  11. You receive the following protection agent error code when bulk tape jobs cannot complete successfully:
    • 0x80990C27
  12. You may experience a Data Protection Manager engine crash during backup to tape.
  13. The Data Protection Manager Management Console does not display recovery points before the year 2010, in some scenarios.

This hotfix rollup also includes all previously released hotfix rollups for Data Protection Manager 2007 Service Pack 1 (SP1):

Installation Instructions

This Data Protection Manager 2007 rollup package consists of three separate updates. Please make sure to choose your correct platform files, each file has a platform designation (-amd64 or -x86) at the end of its filename.

To install each update, follow these steps:

  1. Install the rollup package on the server that is running Data Protection Manager 2007 Service Pack 1. To do this, run the DataProtectionManager2007-KB979970.exe file on the server.
Note You must restart the Data Protection Manager server after you install this rollup package.
  2. Update the remote Microsoft SQL Server installation that is hosting the DPMDB database. To do this, run the SqlPrep-KB979970.msp file on the computer that is running SQL Server.
Note This step is not required if you are running a SQL Server DPMDB instance on the Data Protection Manager 2007 server.
  3. In the DPM Administrator Console, update the protection agents. To do this, use one of the following methods:
    • Method 1: Update the protection agents from the DPM Administrator Console
      1. Open the DPM Administrator Console.
      2. Click the Management tab, and then click the Agents tab.
      3. Select a computer from the Protected Computer list, and then click Update on the Action pane.
      4. Click Yes, and then click Update Agents.
      5. When you receive the Enter Credentials and Reboot option dialog box, enter your credentials, select the Manually restart the selected servers later option, and then click OK.
Note You do not have to restart the computer to update the agent. This is why the Manually restart the selected servers later option was selected.
    • Method 2: Update the protection agents on the protected computers
      1. Obtain the update protection agent package from the "Data Protection Manager installation location\DPM\Agents\RA\2.0.8836.0" directory on the Data Protection Manager 2007 server.
        • For x86-based update: i386\1033\DPMAgentInstaller_KB979970.exe
        • For x64-based update: amd64\1033\DPMAgentInstaller_KB979970_AMD64.exe

Note The DPMAgentInstaller.exe package applies to all languages.
      2. Run the appropriate DPMAgentInstaller.exe package on each protected computer.
      3. Open the DPM Administrator Console on the Data Protection Manager 2007 server.
      4. Click the Management tab, and then click the Agents tab.
