Legacy Update: Get back online, activate, and install updates on your legacy Windows PC

Microsoft® Office SharePoint® Portal Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) contains significant security enhancements, in addition to stability and performance improvements. Some of the fixes included with SP2 have been previously released as separate updates. This service pack combines them into one update.

This service pack includes updates previously released for SharePoint Portal Server 2003:

• SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Service Pack 1

SharePoint Portal Server 2003 SP2 will install even if service pack 1 has already been installed on your computer.

• Microsoft Windows Installer:If you have Windows Installer version 3.0 you will need to upgrade to Windows Installer version 3.1. For more information, see the article (906323): The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program" error message when you install Office 2003 Service Pack 2, or Setup does not finish and you receive no notification.

Installation instructions
If you have Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 installed, follow these steps:

1. Download the .exe file by using the button at the top of the page, and then save the file to your hard disk drive.
2. It is recommended that you quit any programs you are running.
3. In Windows Explorer, double-click the .exe file that you saved to your hard disk drive, and follow the instructions on the screen.

After installation has finished, check the event log to ensure that installation has completed successfully. If installation was not successful, see Microsoft Knowledge Base article 907377.

Note: If you are updating a Web farm, you should update all Web servers to SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Service Pack 2 (SP2) at the same time. For more information, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article (875371): You must update all the Web servers in a Web farm that is running SharePoint Portal Server 2003.
