This download includes the Group Policy Administrative Template files (ADMX/ADML) for Visual Studio 2017, Visual Studio 2019, Visual Studio 2022, and Visual Studio 2026.
This download includes the Group Policy Administrative Template files (ADMX/ADML) for Visual Studio 2017 and higher. These files are used by Group Policy to configure installations of Visual Studio, such as Visual Studio Enterprise and Visual Studio Professional.

System Requirements

These Administrative Templates can be installed on any operating system supported by Visual Studio. Refer to the appropriate system requirements documentation for details.

Installation Instructions
- Click the Download button (above) to download the files.
- Click Next and choose where to save the files.
- Go to the location where you saved the downloaded files, and double-click the admin templates executable (.exe) file, and follow the instructions to extract the files to a location of your choosing. We recommend to put the extracted files in the C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions\ directory.
If you have Windows Server and Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) deployed in your organization, you can configure settings for Visual Studio by using Group Policy. Copy the ADMX/ADML files to your AD DS environment and then use the Group Policy Management administrative tool to configure the Group Policy settings for Visual Studio.
