This paper includes performance information for the new item tracing feature in cumulative update 6 for Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 R2. This feature enables users to investigate root causes and initiate product recalls based on tracking dimensions, such as item and batch numbers, within a legal entity.
Tracing involves searching through a large amount of data for an item. During development, one of the requirements was to make sure that the feature performs with large sets of data. To test performance, a set of master data was developed to simulate a real-world business. The data was then used to make a series of performance measurements.
