If you are using Word 6 and 95 for Windows 16-bit Operating Systems, this converter will allow you to open files created by people using Word 97/2000. The converter has been enhanced to compress pictures inserted into Word documents.
Users who work with a 32-bit operating system should use the Word 97/2000 Converter for Word 6 and 95 Users (Windows 32-bit Operating Systems).
If you are using Word 6 for Windows on a 16-bit Operating System, this converter will allow you to open files created by people using Word 97/2000. The converter has been enhanced to compress pictures inserted into Word documents, reducing the overall size of the files saved with this converter. The additional compression ONLY applies to pictures that are brought into Word by clicking Picture on the Insert menu or using the Paste command, and does not apply to OLE objects, such as Microsoft Excel spreadsheets or Clip Gallery items.

Instructions for use:
The additional compression used is not understood by many common Word Rich Text Format (RTF) readers, so it is strongly recommended that you use this converter if you intend to only share documents with other Word users. If you need to share files from Word 97 or Word 2000 with other applications, such as Microsoft FrontPage, Adobe PageMaker, or Quark Xpress, the best format in which to save the file is RTF.
