To use MSN Messenger version 4.0.1 for Mac, your computer must meet the following minimum requirements:

Processor: Power Mac G3, G4 or G4 Cube, G5; iMac; PowerBook G3 or G4;
iBook; or eMac computer.
Operating system: Mac OS X version 10.2.8 or later (10.3.3 recommended)
Memory: 128 MB of RAM.
Hard disk: 12 MB of available hard disk space.
Programs: Internet browser required, such as Microsoft® Internet Explorer for Mac or Safari.
Modem: 28.8 Kbps or higher.
Internet access: Internet connection through either an Internet service provider (ISP) or a network. Internet access might require a fee to an ISP; local or long-distance telephone charges might also apply.

Tip If you're not sure whether your computer meets these requirements, see the Apple System Profiler program included with Mac OS X. You can start Apple System Profiler by double-clicking its program file in the Applications/Utilities folder on your hard disk.

Installation Instructions

Before you install this download

  • Quit any other programs that are running, including virus-protection programs, because they might interfere with installation.

  • Make sure the user account you use to log on to your computer is an administrator account. For more information about administrator accounts, see Mac Help.

  • Make sure Aladdin Systems StuffIt Expander version 6 or later is installed on your computer. If an earlier version of StuffIt Expander is installed on your computer, you might not be able to install this download.



To install this download
  1. Print this page if you want to use it as a reference when you are offline.

  2. Make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements for this download.

  3. Click the Download button.

  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to save the file to your hard disk.
    If you are using Internet Explorer, the Download Manager saves the file to the desktop unless you specified a different download folder in the Internet Explorer Preferences dialog box (Download Options panel).

  5. On your hard disk, double-click the file that you downloaded in step 4 to expand it.
    Depending on the Web browser that you are currently using, this step might be performed for you automatically.

  6. Copy MSN Messenger to your hard drive by dragging the MSN Messenger icon to the location where you would like to save it. Then, double-click the MSN Messenger icon to start the installer.

  7. Click Next.

  8. Read the Microsoft End-User License Agreement (EULA) and, if you accept these terms, click Next, and then click Accept.

  9. To continue your installation, click Next.

  10. Follow the instructions on the screen to finish installation.

To remove this download
  1. Quit MSN Messenger if it is running.

  2. On your hard disk, locate the MSN Messenger application.

  3. Drag the MSN Messenger application to the Trash, and then empty the Trash.

  4. To remove your existing MSN Messenger preferences, delete the following files in the correct User/Library/Preferences/Microsoft folder:
    • com.microsoft.Messenger.plist

    • com.microsoft.MessengerDaemon.plist

    • MSN Messenger User Cache
