Legacy Update: Get back online, activate, and install updates on your legacy Windows PC

The Microsoft® .NET Framework version 1.1 includes ASP.NET Mobile Controls that enable developers to easily create mobile Web applications. Developers can write and maintain a single application that targets multiple devices. The mobile controls deliver markup language specifically adapted for each browser that accesses the application. ASP.NET Mobile Controls originally shipped in the Microsoft Mobile Internet Toolkit.

Microsoft provides device updates to address and respond to the rapid development of new devices, browsers, and markup languages in the wireless industry. Microsoft develops the updates using the extensibility features available in ASP.NET. When you install a device update, the setup program (dupdate.exe) replaces information in the "browserCaps" section of the Machine.config file and adds entries for new adapters, if necessary.
