Legacy Update: Get back online, activate, and install updates on your legacy Windows PC

Visio 2003 Service Pack 2 contains significant security enhancements, in addition to stability and performance improvements. Some of the fixes included with SP2 have been previously released as separate updates. This service pack combines them into one update.

This service pack also includes updates previously released for Visio 2003:

• Visio 2003 Service Pack 1
• Visio 2003 Security Update: KB838345
• Update for Visio 2003 French Spelling Checker and Thesaurus: KB892293

Visio 2003 SP2 will install even if a publicly available update or service pack has already been installed on your computer.

Visio 2003 SP2 also includes stability improvements developed as a result of user input from the Microsoft Online Crash Analysis in Visio 2003 and from Microsoft Product Support feedback.

Office Communicator 2005 and Visio 2003 SP2

If you are using Office Communicator 2005, you should exit Office Communicator by right-clicking on the Communicator icon in the system tray and choosing "Exit" prior to installing Visio 2003 SP2. If you do not exit Communicator, you will be required to reboot your computer after Visio 2003 SP2 has been installed. For more information, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article (905726): You are prompted to restart the computer when you install an update to the Mso.dll file on a computer that is running Microsoft Office Communicator.

To install when using Visio 2003 Multilingual User Interface Pack

For complete Visio 2003 SP2 functionality if you are using a Visio 2003 Multilingual User Interface Pack (MUI), you will need to install both of the following:

• Microsoft Windows Installer: If you have Windows Installer version 3.0 you will need to upgrade to Windows Installer version 3.1. For more information, see the article (906323): "The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the windows installer service because the program to be upgraded may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program" error message when you install Office 2003 Service Pack 2, or Setup does not finish and you receive no notification.

Installation instructions
To install this update, do one of the following:

• Use the Microsoft Update or Office Update detection web sites (recommended). Both sites automatically detect Visio and prompt you to install updates and service packs that bring Office programs up-to-date.



• Install only Visio 2003 Service Pack 2. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Download the .exe file by using the button at the top of the page, and then save the file to your hard disk drive.
2. It is recommended that you quit any programs you are running.
3. In Windows Explorer, double-click the .exe file that you saved to your hard disk drive, and follow the instructions on the screen.

After you install this update, use Visio as you typically would.


To remove this download:

There is no uninstall feature for this download. For more information, see the Microsoft Knowledge Base article (873125): You cannot remove service packs for Office 2003 products.
