Microsoft Speech Application Software Development Kit 1.1

  • Published:
  • Version: 1.1

Developers can use the Microsoft Speech Application SDK (SASDK) Version 1.1 to quickly and easily add speech interfaces to Microsoft ASP.NET Web applications. The development tools included in the SASDK support the Speech Application Language Tags (SALT) specification.

By using the SASDK, developers can easily create, debug, and deploy speech-enabled ASP.NET Web applications intended for deployment to a computer running Microsoft Speech Server 2004 R2 (MSS). These speech-enabled applications can be designed for devices ranging from telephones to Windows® Mobile™-based devices and desktop PCs.

Application authoring tools are seamlessly integrated into Microsoft Visual Studio® .NET 2003, giving developers a familiar and powerful development environment. By using the authoring tools in the SASDK, developers can create applications that recognize spoken commands and respond to those commands with a spoken or a visual response.

In addition to powerful authoring tools, the SASDK provides:

  • A rich voice mode grammar library
  • Debugging tools
  • Reference documentation
  • Log analysis tools
  • ASP.NET Speech Controls
  • Sample and reference applications
  • Speech Application Deployment Service (SADS)
  • Speech Add-in for Microsoft Internet Explorer

See the SASDK components installation recommendations table to determine which components of the SASDK to install and learn how to install those components.

Installation Instructions

Before downloading the SASDK, create a temporary directory on your computer with at least 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of free space; for example, C:\SpeechSDK. This directory name should not contain spaces.

High Bandwidth Download Instructions
To download the files required for installing the SASDK in one step, click the file SASDK_V11_Full.exe and save it to your computer. When the file has downloaded successfully, double-click it to extract its content to the temporary directory you created.

Low Bandwidth Download Instructions
Because of the size of the full download, you may want to download the SASDK in separate files that can be extracted after they are saved to your computer. To do this, click the links and save all the SASDK_V11_Part#.cab files to the temporary directory you created (C:\SpeechSDK). Then follow these steps:

  1. Click the link to save the self-extracting executable SASDK_Extract.exe to your computer.

  2. Double-click SASDK_Extract.exe to extract its contents to the temporary directory you created (C:\SpeechSDK).

  3. Use the cd command at a command prompt (click Start, click Run, type cmd in the Open box, and then click OK) to navigate to the temporary directory you created. For example, type the following at a command prompt.

         cd C:\SpeechSDK

  4. Run SASDK_ExtractAll.cmd to create the full image from the .cab files and place that full image in a new installation directory. For example, type the following at a command prompt to create the full image and place it in a new directory (C:\SpeechSDK\Setup).

         SASDK_ExtractAll.cmd C:\SpeechSDK\Setup

Note  This may take several minutes to complete.
