Speech-Enabled Fitch and Mather Stocks Application (FMStocksVoice) |
The Speech-Enabled Fitch and Mather Stocks application (FMStocksVoice) is a voice-only version of the “Fitch and Mather Stocks” Web application, a fictitious online stock trading company. The application is built using Microsoft’s® Speech Application SDK 1.0.
FMStocksVoice shows the developer how to create a voice-only service from an existing Web application. FMStocksVoice leverages the existing business- and data-layers of the Fitch and Mather sample it is based on, demonstrating programming and design techniques for using the Speech SDK, and for developing voice-only applications in general. This application is not intended for commercial deployment.

Sample code (fast connection)
If you’d like to download all of the sample code and have a fast connection, download the Speech-Enabled Fitch and Mather Stocks.MSI 52MB. Once the download is complete, double-click on the file to launch the installer.
Sample code (slow connection)
If you’d like to download all of the sample code and have a slow connection, download all 6 CAB files starting with Speech-enabled Fitch and Mather Stocks 1.CAB. After downloading all of the files, double-click on the first file, FMStocks 1, to extract the MSI file. Select a location to extract the file to, and press OK. When the file, Speech-Enabled Fitch and Mather Stocks.MSI, is fully extracted, double-click on that file to begin installation.

System Requirements
Operating Systems: Windows XP Service Pack 1, Windows 2000 Service Pack 4
- Microsoft Speech Application SDK 1.0.
- Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS).
- Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 or later version. Download the latest version of Microsoft Internet Explorer.
- Microsoft Visual Studio .NET Professional, Enterprise Architect, Enterprise Developer, or Trial Edition.
- Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1
- Download and install MSDE (For configuration information, visit MSDN MSDE details).
Hardware Requirements
- A microphone or some other sound input device to receive the sound is required for speech recognition (SR). In general, the microphone should be a high quality device with built-in noise filters. The speech recognition rate is directly related to the quality of the input. The recognition rate will be significantly lower or perhaps even unacceptable with a poor microphone.
