This page is intended for advanced manual installation of the Windows Azure SDK for .NET, which include SDKs, basic tools, and extended tools for VS 2013 and VS 2015. You can install everything you need for Microsoft Azure development using the Web Platform Installer.

  • Recommended:Instead of manually downloading the files below, it is recommended you use the automated one-click install provided by the Web Platform Installer x64 or x86. Click on the appropriate install link below based on your version of Visual Studio:
    • VS 2017 installation is available via the VS installer in the Web workload
    • VS 2015
    • VS 2013
    You can also automate the installation with the WebPICmd Command-Line Tool using the AppID: Vs2015AzurePack.2E2.2E9.appids (for Visual Studio 2015) or VWDOrVs2013AzurePack.2E2.2E9.appids (for Visual Studio 2013)

    Windows Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio extend Visual Studio 2013 / Visual Studio 2015 / Visual Studio 2017 to enable the creation, configuration, building, debugging, running, packaging and deployment of scalable web applications and services on Windows Azure.

    Windows Azure™ is a cloud services operating system that serves as the development, service hosting and service management environment for the Windows Azure platform. Windows Azure provides developers with on-demand compute and storage services to host, scale, and manage web applications on the internet through Microsoft® datacenters.

    Windows Azure is a flexible platform that supports multiple languages and integrates with your existing on-premises environment. To build applications and services on Windows Azure, developers can use their existing Microsoft Visual Studio® expertise. In addition, Windows Azure supports popular standards, protocols and languages including SOAP, REST, XML, Java, PHP, Ruby, Node and Python.

Installation Instructions

  • To install the Windows Azure SDK for .NET manually, follow these steps:
    1. Install Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 or Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 ORMicrosoft Visual Web Developer 2013 or Microsoft Visual Express for Web 2015
    2. Install LocalDB prereq of .Net FX update 4.0.2 or higher from here
    3. Install the Microsoft Azure Authoring Tools - 2.9.6 - MicrosoftAzureAuthoringTools-x86.msi or MicrosoftAzureAuthoringTools-x64.msi
    4. Install the Microsoft Azure Emulator - 2.9.6 - MicrosoftAzureComputeEmulator-x86.exe or MicrosoftAzureComputeEmulator-x64.exe
    5. Install the Microsoft Azure Client Libraries for .NET - 2.9.6 - MicrosoftAzureLibsForNet-x86.msi or MicrosoftAzureLibsForNet-x64.msi
    6. Install the Microsoft Azure Storage Emulator - 2.9.6 - MicrosoftAzureStorageEmulator.msi
    7. Install the Microsoft Azure Storage Tools - 2.9.6 - MicrosoftAzureStorageTools.msi
    8. Install the Microsoft Azure Data Factory Tools - 2.9.6 - Microsoft.Azure.DataFactoryTools.msi OR Microsoft.Azure.DataFactoryToolsVS2015.msi
    9. Install the Microsoft Data Lake Tools - 2.9.6 - Microsoft.Azure.DataLakeToolsForVS2013.msi OR Microsoft.Azure.DataLakeToolsForVS2015.msi and the associated driver HiveODBC32.msi OR HiveODBC64.msi
    10. Install the Microsoft Azure Mobile Apps SDK - 2.9.6 - AzureMobileAppsSdkV1.0.msi or AzureMobileAppsSdkV2.0.msi
    11. Install the Microsoft Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 - 2.9.6 - MicrosoftAzureTools.VS.120 or Microsoft Azure Tools for Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 - 2.9.6 - MicrosoftAzureTools.VS.140
    12. Install the Web Tools Extensions for Microsoft Visual Studio 2015 - WebToolsExtensionsVS14.msi or Microsoft Visual Studio 2013 - WebToolsExtensionsVS2013.msi or for Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2013 - WebToolsExtensionsVWD2013.msi or for Microsoft Visual Web Developer 2015 - WebToolsExtensionsVWD14.msi
    13. Install the Web Tools for Azure for VS 2015 - WebToolsAzure2015.exe
    14. Install the WebDeployment Tools 2.1 or up from here
    15. OPTIONAL for full IIS Enable IIS7 with ASP.NET and WCF HTTP Activation, Static Content, IIS Management Console, HTTP Redirection and optionally CGI, ISAPI Extensions, ISAPI Filters, Directory Browsing, HTTP Errors, Logging Tools, Request Monitor and Tracing, Request Filtering.
      • Windows 7
        1. From the Start menu, choose Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features.
        2. Choose Turn Windows Features On or Off.
        3. Under Internet Information Services, expand World Wide Web Services, then Application Development Features, then select .NET Extensibility, ASP.NET, ISAPI Extensions and ISAPI Filters.
        4. Under Internet Information Services, expand World Wide Web Services, then Common HTTP Features, then select Directory Browsing, HTTP Errors, HTTP Redirection, Static Content.
        5. Under Internet Information Services, expand World Wide Web Services, then Health and Diagnostics, then select Logging Tools, Request Monitor and Tracing.
        6. Under Internet Information Services, expand World Wide Web Services, then Security, then select Request Filtering.
        7. Under Internet Information Services, expand Web Management Tools, then select IIS Management Console.
        8. Install the selected features.
      • Windows Server 2008
        1. From the Start menu, choose Programs | Administrative Tools | Server Manager.
        2. In Server Manager, under Features Summary, choose Add Features.
        3. In Server Manager, under Roles Summary, verify that Web Server (IIS) appears in the list of available roles. If it does not, choose Add Roles to install Internet Information Services.
        4. In Server Manager, under Roles Summary, choose Web Server (IIS).
        5. In the Web Server (IIS) management window, choose Add Role Services.
        6. In the Add Role Services dialog, expand Web Server, then Common HTTP Features, then select Directory Browsing, HTTP Errors, HTTP Redirection, Static Content.
        7. In the Add Role Services dialog, expand Web Server, then Application Development Features, then select .NET Extensibility, ASP.NET, ISAPI Extensions and ISAPI Filters.
        8. In the Add Role Services dialog, expand Web Server, then Health and Diagnostics, then select Logging Tools, Request Monitor and Tracing.
        9. In the Add Role Services dialog, expand Web Server, then Security, then select Request Filtering.
        10. Under Internet Information Services, expand Web Management Tools, then select IIS Management Console.
      • Windows 8 and Windows 8.1
        1. From the Start menu, choose Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features.
        2. Choose Turn Windows Features On or Off.
        3. Under .NET Framework 4.5 Advanced Services, select Asp.Net 4.5 and WCF Services -> HTTP Activation & TCP Port Sharing
        4. Under Internet Information Services, select Web Management Tools -> IIS Management Console.
        5. Under Internet Information Services, expand World Wide Web Services, then Application Development Features, then select .Net Extensibility 4.5, Asp.Net 4.5, ISAPI Extensions, ISAPI Filters.
        6. Under Internet Information Services, expand World Wide Web Services, then Common HTTP Features, then select Default Document, Directory Browsing, HTTP Errors, HTTP Redirection, Static Content
        7. Under Internet Information Services, expand World Wide Web Services, then Health and Diagnostics, then select Logging Tools, Request Monitor, Tracing.
        8. Under Internet Information Services, expand World Wide Web Services, then Security, then select Request Filtering.
      • Windows Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012 R2
        1. From the Start menu, choose Programs | Administrative Tools | Server Manager.
        2. In Server Manager, open "Add Roles and Features" wizard and select the Web Server (IIS) Role in Server Roles.
        3. Under IIS Server Role Features, select .Net Framework 4.5 Features - Asp.Net 4.5, WCF Services - HTTP Activation & TCP Port Sharing
        4. Under Web Server Role (IIS) - Role Services, expand Web Server -> Common HTTP Features and select Default Document, Directory Browsing, HTTP Errors and Static Content
        5. Under Web Server Role (IIS) - Role Services, expand Web Server -> Health and Diagnostics and select HTTP Logging, Logging Tools, Request Monitor and Tracing
        6. Under Web Server Role (IIS) - Role Services, expand Web Server -> Security and select Request Filtering
        7. Under Internet Information Services, expand Web Management Tools, then select IIS Management Console.
