Legacy Update: Get back online, activate, and install updates on your legacy Windows PC

Use Visual Studio and Apache Cordova™ to easily build hybrid apps that run on iOS, Android, Windows, and Windows Phone using a single project based on HTML and JavaScript. (Note: You must have Visual Studio 2013 Update 5 installed.)

• Visual Studio Tools for Apache Cordova™ provides the ability to build once and deploy to a variety of devices and platforms: iOS, Android, Windows Phone, and Windows Store. Best of all, you get access to native device APIs using only HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This preview release for Visual Studio 2013 Update 5 supports building apps for the following device targets:
  • Android 4+
  • iOS 6, iOS 7, iOS 8
  • Windows 8.0 and Windows 8.1 Store
  • Windows Phone 8.0 and Windows Phone 8.1
  Note: Windows 8.0 and Windows Phone 8.0 apps are fully compatible with Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 devices. This release requires Visual Studio 2013 Update 5, and you must remove any previous Cordova CTP before installing.

• Other Requirements:
  • Visual Studio 2013 Update 5, with the following features installed: "Tools for Maintaining Store apps for Windows 8" and "Windows Phone 8.0 SDK".
    • Note: Before installing Visual Studio 2013 Update 5, you must uninstall Multi-Device Hybrid Apps for Visual Studio 2013 CTP2.0 or Visual Studio Tools for Apache Cordova CTP3.0, if you have that installed.
  • For the Windows Phone emulators, Windows 8.1 (x64) Professional edition or higher, and a processor that supports Client Hyper-V and Second Level Address Translation (SLAT).
  • For the Android emulator, a processor capable of supporting the Intel HAXM driver is recommended.
  • For iOS app development, an Apple Mac capable of running OSX Mavericks and Xcode 6.1, and an active iOS Developer Program account.

  1. Uninstall Multi-Device Hybrid Apps for Visual Studio 2013 CTP2.0 or earlier, or Visual Studio Tools for Apache Cordova CTP3.0, if you have that installed.
  2. Install Visual Studio 2013 Update 5.
  3. Download and run the installer for Visual Studio Studio Tools for Apache Cordova™ CTP. The installer will download and configure additional dependencies, including
     • Joyent Node.js
     • Git CLI
     • Google Chrome
     • Apache Ant
     • Oracle Java JDK 7
     • Android SDK
     • SQLLite for Windows Runtime
     • Apple iTunes
