Legacy Update: Get back online, activate, and install updates on your legacy Windows PC

In Windows Phone 8.1, apps are delivered as AppX packages just like store apps for Windows 8.1—previously, Windows Phone apps were delivered as Xap packages; this difference brings changes to the project file in Windows Phone 8.1 projects. This document describes how you can manually upgrade an existing solution for your Windows Phone 8.0 C++ and DirectX app to target Windows Phone 8.1.

• In Windows Phone 8.1, apps are delivered as AppX packages just like store apps for Windows 8.1—previously, Windows Phone apps were delivered as Xap packages; this difference brings changes to the project file in Windows Phone 8.1 projects together with a different kind of manifest file. Unlike other kinds of projects, Visual Studio doesn’t upgrade C++ and DirectX projects to Windows Phone 8.1 automatically. This document describes how you can manually upgrade an existing solution for your Windows Phone 8.0 C++ and DirectX app to target Windows Phone 8.1.
