This page provides the Group Policy Administrative Template files for Internet Explorer
- Administrative template files are used to populate user interface settings in the Group Policy Object Editor, enabling administrators to manage registry-based policy settings.
As part of the August 2014 Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (KB2976627), the Internet Explorer administrative templates were updated with four new Group Policy settings to manage out-of-date ActiveX controls. Installation Instructions
Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, and Windows Server 2008 SP2:- Click the Download button on this page to start the download.
- Save the ZIP to a directory on your computer.
- From an elevated command prompt, use the following command to update the inetres.admx file:
- copy /y %WINDIR%\KB2841134\inetres.admx %SYSTEMROOT%\PolicyDefinitions\inetres.admx
- From an elevated command prompt, use the following command to update the inetres.adml file for the targeted languages:
- copy /y %WINDIR%\KB2841134\<LanguageCode>\inetres.adml %SYSTEMROOT%\Windows\PolicyDefinitions\<LanguageCode>\inetres.adml
- In the previous command, replace <LanguageCode> with one of the supported languages, using the xx-XX value.

Windows Server 2003 (English only): To manage Group Policy settings on a mixed environment of Internet Explorer versions from a Windows Server 2003 machine, the Administrative Template files need to be manually imported.- Click the Download button on this page to start the download.
- Save the ZIP to a directory on your computer.
- Copy inetres.adm into %WINDIR%\inf\
- Open the Group Policy Editor
- Click Start, click Run, type gpedit.msc, and then click OK.
- Expand Local Computer Policy, expand Computer Configuration.
- Right click on Administrative Templates. If you see Inetres template on this list, click Remove, and then click Close.
- Right click on Administrative Templates and click on Add/Remove Templates. Click Add and locate inetres.adm in %WINDIR%\inf\ and click Open to add it again.
- Click Close.
