    This release allows you to develop x64-based applications by using SUA, and develop and port custom UNIX-based applications to Windows by using the Windows OCI (Oracle Call Interface) and Windows ODBC libraries.

    Note that Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications has been deprecated, and will not be available in future releases of Windows or Windows Server. For more information about alternatives or workarounds, see the "Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications" section of Features Removed or Deprecated in Windows Server 2012.

System Requirements

Operating Systems: Windows 8, Windows Server 2012

  • This download package installs only on computers that are running Windows 8 Enterprise or the full-GUI installation option of Windows Server 2012.

    IMPORTANT: Uninstall any other versions or copies of the Utilities and SDK for SUA before you install the Windows 8 Utilities and SDK for SUA. If you are currently running the Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 release of the Utilities and SDK for SUA on your Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 system, uninstall it to prepare for the Windows 8 Utilities and SDK for SUA.

    Before downloading and installing the Utilities and SDK for Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications, be sure that SUA is installed on the target computer. On computers that are running Windows 8 Enterprise, open Control Panel/Programs/Programs and Features/Turn Windows features on or off, and then select Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications. On computers that are running Windows Server 2012, open Server Manager, open Add Roles and Features Wizard on the Manage menu, and then select Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications on the Select Features page of the wizard. Complete the wizard and click Install to install SUA. To install SUA on Windows Server 2012 by using Windows PowerShell, run the following command in a Windows PowerShell session that has been opened with elevated rights (Run as Administrator): Install-WindowsFeature -Name Subsystem-UNIX-Apps.

Installation Instructions

  • Click Continue to register with Microsoft before you download this package, or you can opt not to register with Microsoft. Download the package that matches the architecture of the target computer. If you are not sure whether your computer is x86- or x64-based, see How to determine whether a computer is running a 32-bit version or 64-bit version of the Windows operating system.

    As you download the executable file, you can choose to run the file, or save it to a convenient location. When you run the executable, the WinZip Self-Extractor utility opens. Click Setup to run the self-extractor and install the Utilities and SDK for SUA. When the file extraction is complete, the setup process opens the Utilities and SDK for Subsystem for UNIX-based Applications Setup Wizard. As you progress through the wizard, be sure to accept the terms of the license agreement to continue. Click Install to begin installing the Utilities and SDK for SUA. If desired, you can opt to change case sensitivity, setuid, and other settings at a later time. The WinZip Self-Extractor utility might remain open for a few minutes after the Utilities and SDK for SUA has finished installing, but it closes automatically; you do not need to close this.
