IT Professionals and Hosters is a configurable module that helps mitigate or block Denial of Service Attacks or cracking of passwords through brute-force by temporarily blocking Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of HTTP clients.
- The Dynamic IP Restrictions Extension for IIS provides IT Professionals and Hosters a configurable module that helps mitigate or block Denial of Service Attacks or cracking of passwords through brute-force by temporarily blocking Internet Protocol (IP) addresses of HTTP clients who follow a pattern that could be conducive to one of such attacks. This module can be configured such that the analysis and blocking could be done at the Web Server or the Web Site level.The module includes the following features:
- Seamless integration into IIS 7.0 Manager.
- Dynamically blocking of requests from IP address based on either of the following criteria:
- The number of concurrent requests.
- The number of requests over a period of time.
- Blocking of requests can be configured at either site or server level.
- Configurable deny actions allows IT Administrators to specify what response would be returned to the client. The module support return status codes 401, 403, 404 or blocking the requests entirely.
- Support for IPv6 addresses.
- Support for web servers behind a proxy or firewall.

System Requirements
Operating Systems: Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista
- Internet Information Services 7.0 or 7.5 must be installed
Installation Instructions
- You will need to run the installation package as an administrator. This can be accomplished by one of the following methods:
- Logging in to your server using the actual account named "Administrator".
- Logging on using an account with administrator privileges and opening a command-prompt by right-clicking the Command Prompt menu item that is located in the Accessories menu for Windows programs and selecting "Run as administrator", then typing the appropriate command listed below for your version of Windows to run the installation:
msiexec /I msi_name
If the Beta or Beta 2 version of Dynamic IP Restrictions has been installed, you need to uninstall it before proceeding with this installation. Also, the installation of the initial Beta uninstalled IPv4 and Domain restrictions module as part of its installation. If user has active configuration using this feature, they will have to re-install IPv4 and Domain restrictions module using Server Manager before proceeding with the installation.
