This guide has six accompanying samples, covering all of the scenarios described in the book: a typical on-premises application, the first migration to Windows Azure and subsequent optimizations.
These samples illustrate the steps towards migration of a typical application built with .NET to Windows Azure. See the Readme and Release Notes for information about installing and configuring the examples.

System Requirements
Operating Systems: Windows Server 2012, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 8
- Microsoft Windows 7 with Service Pack 1, Microsoft Windows 8, or Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 with Service Pack 1, and Microsoft Windows Server 2012 (32-bit or 64-bit)
- Microsoft .NET Framework version 4.0
- Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Ultimate, Premium, or Professional edition or Visual Studio 2010 Ultimate, Premium, or Professional edition with Service Pack 1 installed
- Windows Azure SDK for .NET (includes the Visual Studio Tools for Windows Azure).
- Microsoft SQL Server 2012, SQL Server Express 2012 , SQL Server 2008, or SQL Server Express 2008
- Windows Identity Foundation
- WatiN testing framework
Installation Instructions
- Click the 'Download Now' link to start the download.
- Save the file to your hard drive. The samples are packaged as a self-extractable zip file.
- Run the file and accept the End User Licensing Agreement to proceed.
- The files will be extracted to your chosen destination folder. This must not be a folder in your profile. Use a folder near the root of your drive with a short name to avoid issues with the length of filenames.
- See the "Readme.htm" and "Release Notes.htm" files for information about the specific versions required, and installing and configuring the examples.
