• The Microsoft Captions Language Interface Pack (CLIP) is a simple language translation solution that uses tooltip captions to display translations for English user interface terms.
  
  CLIP is designed for those Visual Studio users who are not very fluent in English. CLIP can help those users learn and use Visual Studio 2008 by providing translation for the most common user interface elements of the Visual Studio Integrated Development Environment (IDE). CLIP is the result of the close collaboration between Microsoft and local academic communities.
  
  To use, simply move your mouse around the screen and halt briefly over any text you want translated. Users can also add their own translations and copy and paste any translation results.
  
  CLIP for Visual Studio 2008 is available in Arabic, Czech, Hebrew, Hindi, Malayalam, Oriya, Polish, Tamil and Turkish, i.e. it will display translations from English into these languages. To download it, please select your language from the drop-down box and click the Change button. You will be directed to the specific page.

  • Microsoft CLIP requires that the .NET Framework 2.0 or higher version is installed on the user's computer. .NET Framework is already installed as part of Visual Studio so no further steps are required. However, if for any reasons you have removed the .NET Framework from your computer, please make sure to re-install it before installing CLIP.

  • Follow the on-screen installation instructions.
  
  
  • When the installation completes, CLIP will start automatically.
  
  
  
  Instructions for use:
  
  
  
  
  • Once installed, Microsoft Captions Language Interface Pack (CLIP) is already enabled and ready to display translations. All you need to do is move your cursor around the screen and delay briefly over the text you want translated.
  
  
  • There are two types of interface available to show the translation results: the Tooltip caption or the CLIP window. To select how and when the translations are shown, set your preferences using the Options button (represented by two hammers) on the CLIP window, or Options on the system tray menu.
  
  
  • To add a user translation, click on the Add new translation button (represented by a plus sign) in the CLIP window. Note, you can only have 1 user translation at one time. Moreover, CLIP will not show other translations until you have finished adding a user translation.
  
  
  • To edit a user translation, select the user translation in the CLIP window and click on the down arrow in the translation text box. Note that default translations are not editable.
  
  
  • To access the CLIP window for your selected source text, press the CLIP Window Key + Hot-key. You may then need to move the cursor around a little to bring up the selection menu. Users can copy translation results by using the Copy menu and pasting into other documents.
  
  
  • To temporarily stop or start CLIP, double-click on the system tray icon. Use Exit to shutdown CLIP.
  
  
  • At times the CLIP tooltip caption might get displayed underneath the Visual Studio button tooltips. You can therefore choose to disable the Visual Studio tooltips; to do so, Go to Tools menu, select Customize and uncheck the Show ScreenTips on Toolbars option.
  
  To remove this download:
  
  
  
  • Open the Control Panel from the Start menu.
  
  
  • Select Add or Remove Programs.
  
  
  • In the list of currently installed programs search for Microsoft Captions Language Interface Pack and uninstall your chosen language.
  
  
  • Click Remove or Add/Remove. If a dialog box appears, follow the instructions to remove the program.
  
  
  • Click Yes or OK to confirm that you want to remove the program.
