Group Policy Common Scenarios Using GPMC |
A series of desktop management scenarios implemented through Group Policy and documented in the included whitepaper. Group Policy Objects are packaged for import using the Group Policy Management Console.
Group Policy is a rich technology allowing the management of users and machines throughout an organization. This package includes a series of Group Policy Objects (GPOs) illustrating a number of common desktop scenarios. These include Lightly Managed, Mobile and Kiosk scenarios plus others.By importing these GPO's into your environment - using the Group Policy Management Console (GPMC) - you can understand how Group Policy can be leveraged for a range of management needs. This installation package includes the GPO's, a whitepaper describing the concepts illustrated by the scenarios and both a spreadsheet and Group Policy Reports referencing the policy settings within the GPO's.

System Requirements
Operating Systems: Windows 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP
The installer can be invoked on any of the listed operating systems. To import the packaged GPOs into your environment you need:Group Policy Management Console (GPMC) - requires either Windows XP Professional or Windows Server 2003An operational Active Directory Domain (Windows 2000 or Window Server 2003)Note that GPMC is not necessary if only the documentation is required.
Installation Instructions
The installation package installs the whitepaper, spreadsheet, Group Policy Reports and a GPO import script on your machine. A "Group Policy Common Scenarios" submenu is also added to the Start menu, serving as a launching point for access to these resources. Note that running the installer does NOT import or in any way implement the common scenario GPO's in your environment. A supplied script is available to allow you to manually initiate this process after the installer has been invoked. To install the GPOs it is necessary to run the installation package on a machine on which GPMC has been previously installed (note that installer will run on a machine without GPMC if you only wish to install the documentation).
