Installation Instructions

  • To extract the download and build the .ISO file put the 7 downloaded files in the same directory and execute the self extracting .exe file. This will combine the files into an ISO image you can burn onto a DVD.

Note that mounting an ISO over 4GB does not work in Microsoft Virtual PC.

    Installation Prerequisites
An updated version of the Windows Installer must exist for the Windows Embedded Standard installation to succeed.

Windows Installer 3.1 can be installed on Windows XP SP2 or Windows Server 2003 systems. Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008 already contain an updated version of the Windows Installer. Windows Installer 3.1 can be installed from the Windows Embedded Standard installation DVD by clicking the Prepare link in the Windows Embedded Standard splash screen.
Microsoft SQL Server Express 2005 (SP1 or newer), SQL Server 2005 (SP1 or newer), SQL Server Express 2008, or SQL Server 2008 must be present to install or migrate to a Windows Embedded Standard component database.

    Key Points:
    • To resolve a performance issue with this evaluation software you should install kb981792, see the support page for more information.
    • The installation DVD includes the integrated version of SQL Server 2005 Express, which is the installable database platform for the Windows Embedded Standard suite of tools. This version will run/install on both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms.
    • For instructions on migrating from MSDE to SQL Server 2005 Express, see this Microsoft Web site. This link will immediately open a Microsoft Word document.
    • For instructions on how to verify the version of the SQL Server product installed on your machine, see this Microsoft Web site.
