Windows XP Common Criteria Configuration Guide 2.0 |
This document is the Microsoft Windows XP Security Configuration Guide version 2.0 that was used in the completion of the Windows XP and Server 2003 x64 Common Criteria Evaluation.
This guide provides guidance to allow for the secure installation and configuration of Windows XP Professional in accordance with the Windows 2003/XP Security Target (ST). The Windows 2003/XP Security Target, henceforth referred to as the Windows 2003/XP ST, provides a set of security requirements taken from the Common Criteria (CC) for Information Technology Security Evaluation. The Windows XP Professional product was evaluated against the Windows 2003/XP ST and found to satisfy the ST requirements. This guide is targeted at those responsible for ensuring that the installation and configuration process results in a secure configuration. For the purposes of this document, a secure configuration, henceforth referred to as the Evaluated Configuration, is one that enforces the requirements presented in the Windows 2003/XP ST.
The required configuration settings specified by this document are used explicitly to achieve the Evaluated Configuration. Microsoft also produces the “Windows XP Security Guide” (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=14839) and the “Threats and Countermeasures: Security Settings in Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP” guide (http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=15159), which may be used to determine the recommended settings that an organization may wish to apply. Most of the recommended settings defined in this document were derived from a review of the Windows XP Security Guide and Threats and Countermeasures document, along with other material identified in the Reference section of this document.
